In retrospect

It’s New Year’s Eve. Last night, Don, Jeremiah, and I were up talking about the things that happened to us all throughout 2008. During the discussion, Don said that he didn’t want the year to end yet, because he felt he didn’t accomplish much this year.

While I feel that I could have done more this year, I have to say that in my case, 2008 was a year full of change. Here are a few examples.

  • 2008 was the year that I graduated. I was finally sent out into the real world, and I finally learned the art of penny pinching.
  • I got my first job, and hated it.
  • Quit my job, and got a new one. One which gave me more freedom.
  • Spiritually speaking, I think I’ve grown a bit this year. Not as much as I would have liked, but I’ve gotten more involved in church activities.
  • More freedom – from my parents. They’ve always been strict, but they’ve loosened up a bit, especially after graduation. Although, understandably, there are still a few rules I need to follow if I’m going to remain under their roof.

There are still a lot more, but I think if I listed them all, I’d just go on and on.

I normally don’t make New Year’s resolutions, since I inevitably end up breaking them. I just hope that 2009 becomes a pleasant adventure, like how 2008 was.

11 hours until the New Year. :) I hope everyone has fun. :) Oh, is anyone interested in getting a tuxedo?

Post-Christmas entry

This is going to be random and all over the place.

I might be able to get this for $30. Scratch that. The guy at Pinoy DVD is willing to lower the price to around $25 give or take a couple dollars. Should I get it? I really really want those character sketches. :D I hope to meet with the seller, and settle the deal on Monday afternoon.

I am appalled by what I read here. I urge you all to read it and spread the word as well. It’s outrageous and unacceptable. I can’t believe a person would do that to a man of 56 years old, and a 14 year-old kid. What’s happening to the world? I only hope that justice is served to the family. There seems to be some progress, since it has been mentioned in some local news shows, and a news article has been written.

My DSLR has been with Canon Service Center for almost a week. I haven’t heard from them yet, but I’m hoping that they call back with some news when the New Year comes rolling in. I miss my DSLR, and I sort of wish I had even a Canon Powershot to keep me occupied.

Merry Christmas

It’s 1:35AM. I’ve had too much lasagna, roast beef, and mashed potatoes.

Our guests have just left.

My Christmas Eve involved a Guitar Hero game, a round of Fight Night, and Top Spin 3 and a discussion on promotional products. It also involved me getting bitten in the arm by a crazy (not really) 14 year-old Australian.

It was a pretty uneventful day.

Merry Christmas, guys. :) I hope you have an awesome day. Eat, drink, be merry.

Holiday Movie List

I just realized that I have so many DVDs that I haven’t watched yet. I think the holidays present a perfect opportunity to actually get started on them.

Some movies I intend to watch during the holidays:

Most of them are films starring Greta Garbo, with the exception of Gaslight, which stars Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman.

I still have quite a few other sealed DVDs that need unsealing, but the ones above will have to do for now. I might need acne treatments if I go on a really long movie marathon.

A music post, how quaint.

I’d like to share what has been keeping my foobar busy these days.

  • Van Canto
Van Canto is a German a capella metal band. A capella and metal, sound so weird put together. When my brother showed me the link to their Nightwish cover, I cracked up. It was a little weird at first, but I’ve grown to like them.
  • Explosions In The Sky
They’re an instrumental post-rock band. I usually listen to them while I’m working. I find it much easier to concentrate.
  • Amiina
Amiina is a string quartet. They’re Icelandic (like Sigur Ros). They play mostly instrumentals as well. I love how their music sounds.
  • Mogwai
A post-rock band from Glasgow, they usually play guitar-based instrumentals. I love their song, The Sun Smells Too Loud.

As you can see, I’ve been listening mostly to instrumentals for the past few months. Well, in addition to other songs I have in my hard drive. I’m open to different genres, though. So if you have anything to recommend… :)

Anyone interested in best fat burner?

Christmas Shopping = Accomplished!

I finally, finally, finally finished my Christmas shopping. Seriously, what a relief.

It wasn’t so difficult. Luckily, the mall wasn’t crowded so I didn’t have much trouble walking from shop to shop. Lyndon accompanied me and he did some shopping of his own.

I finished my Christmas shopping with lots of time to spare. Haha. This is phenomenal! I usually shop at the last minute, so this is really surprising for me and a lot of people.

It’s a little annoying, though. My mom keeps bugging me to tell her what I got her. I wonder what she’ll think if I told her that I got her air o swiss humidifiers. Although, no, I didn’t get her that.

Now if only my shipments from Barnes & Noble would arrive. :(

My Christmas Wishlist

I think this season marks the first time I’ve ever written a Christmas wishlist. :D

  • 2009 Movie Posters Wall Calendar

Being a classic movie addict, I have to admit that I really really really want this. It has posters of some of my favorite movies in it. I’d probably rip out the pages and have each framed. Haha.

  • Oscar the Grouch Plush Doll

I’ve already placed a bid on a Cookie Monster plushie on eBay, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want a plush doll of my favorite character. Oscar has been our (me and my older brother) favorite Sesame Street character since forever.

  • Sunset Blvd Centennial Collection DVD

I can’t find a decent DVD of Sunset Blvd in shops here. So I’ve resigned myself to downloading torrents with terrible sound and video quality. :(

  • Ingrid Bergman: A Personal Biography
I’ve always wanted to read this particular biography of Ingrid Bergman.
  • The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood.
  • Someone to sponsor the assembling of my home theater and hopefully provide home theater seating? This is a very distant dream, but one I do not intend to let go of. I intend to have that home theater!

So what do you want for Christmas?

It would also make me very happy if you join Menage MB. :)
