Recovering

Our family has started recovering and rebuilding our lives, post-Typhoon Ondoy (or Hurricane Ketsana).

It’s not as easy as looking for a medical assistant training school, but we’re taking small steps. Hopefully in a few months, we’ll be back to normal.

I was shocked to hear about the earthquakes in Indonesia and the quake and tsunami in Samoa. I hope the survivors there are doing well and are recovering from the calamities.

Keeping myself occupied

Because of all the bad news about the typhoon, I’ve been trying to keep myself busy so I won’t end up insane with worry.

I’ve been reading books, going out a bit, and also volunteering to help repack relief goods for rescue operations in Manila.

It’s somewhat therapeutic, doing something to help, instead of just sitting around and worrying without doing anything.

I have yet to hear from some of my friends, but I hope they’re doing okay.

Disaster.

Our country was hit by a really bad typhoon a few days ago, which affected most of the Luzon area in our country.

410mm of rainfall in 6 hours. That’s probably the worst we’ve ever had. Our house, which typically never floods, was flooded up to our necks. Now we have to worry about mortgage life insurance rates.

I was receiving updates from my dad and brothers about what was happening in the house. My pet Labrador was already swimming in the flood water before my older brother was able to secure him.

Davao

I landed in Davao City a few hours ago. I just got home from a little get together with my cousins. I have a bit of a buzz, but I feel great.

Things are going well so far. I haven’t been able to do anything awesome like treatments for Mesothelioma, but I’m having fun. I was able to catch up with my cousins and we’re going out this afternoon.

I might go shopping for souvenirs soon, and maybe get a ukulele if I find a good one.

Anyway, I’m off to bed so I’ll be well rested tomorrow. I’ll be blogging more about my trip here.

On PureVolume

A couple of days ago, Lyndon dropped by at the house, and we decided to record a couple of acoustic M2M covers using his laptop and Audacity.

I’ve uploaded the covers and they’re displayed on the PureVolume account. A few friends are encouraging me to write lyrics, so we can play some of our own compositions. So currently, I’m learning a bit of music theory so I can actually do it properly. Everything I know about music theory was thrown out the window when I quit my piano lessons, but I’m sure I my memory can be refreshed. Or else, I’ll pop a best appetite suppressant.

I’m going to try to start writing when I go on vacation. I’m going to need a dictionary and a thesaurus, though.

Going on vacation soon.

My mom greeted me with a question this morning. I was still a little groggy, when she met me at the bottom of the stairs and asked me, “Would you like to Davao City for two weeks? Give me your answer now, so I can book the flights for Friday next week.”

Naturally, I said yes. I leave Friday next week and return on the 9th of October.

I’m going to start packing at the beginning of the week, and make a list of people I plan to give souvenirs to. Fortunately, one of my cousins was willing to plan out our itinerary for us, so I’ll be able to see my cousins and then go sightseeing.

I’m also thinking of getting some new books to keep me occupied during the flights back and forth, and maybe load some music into my mom’s iPod Touch. Anyway, time to look for best acne treatments for my little brother. He’s been getting a lot of breakouts lately.

I’ll blog again before I leave.

Learning again…

I hope you guys like the new design. :) I created it a couple of days ago, and only got around to coding it for WordPress tonight. I’m thinking the colors are too much, but I’d like everyone’s opinion before I change anything.

I mentioned that I’ve been teaching myself how to play the guitar again. The calluses on my fingertips are hardening and aren’t as painful as they were last week (thank you, rubbing alcohol). But I’ve been able to learn a couple of songs, I just need a bit more practice. Currently, I’m trying to learn this song. It’s been in my head for the few days, for some reason.

The weather has been horrible for the past few days. I was lucky it didn’t rain yesterday, so Lyndon and I were able to play tennis during the afternoon. Time to lose belly fat. Just a bit. Hopefully, it won’t rain on Sunday, since I hate commuting while it’s raining.

Which reminds me, I need to prepare an icebreaker for our small group this Sunday.

New guitar

New guitarLast Thursday, Don, Lyndon, Mei, and I headed over to Sta. Mesa to get me my new guitar.

After checking out several shops – it must have been close to five stores – we ended up getting one from Lely Bandilla’s guitar shop. It took quite a while, though, since Don was too busy flirting with the two girls who were looking after the store.

We walked out of the store after an hour. He took so long and was so busy, we could have transported industrial safety supplies to another island, and he wouldn’t have noticed that we had gone.

I’ll update this post with photos of the guitar soon. – Alright, updated! I wanted to wait until I had the pick holder installed before getting a photo. I spray painted it gray because the only color available was neon green and I didn’t want a neon green pick holder. :P I’m off to soothe my sore fingers now – I’m getting used to playing guitar again. :D

Too tired. :P

Me and Sheine I spent the past few days recovering from the busy long weekend. Basically, I spent the weekend finishing up some work, taking care of church things, and ended it by celebrating Mei’s homecoming and Lyndon’s 18th birthday.

I had too much to eat on Monday that I think I’ll probably need a weight loss product to keep my current weight. :P We had crab, oysters, fish, shrimp and squid for dinner. Seafood overload. I swear, I felt like a pig the following morning.

We had a lot of fun, though, since it’s been a while since we’d done something like that. And it felt really good, having a member of our group back, since we missed her a lot.

Anyway, I should get to bed since I’m meeting a friend early tomorrow so I can buy my new guitar. :) I’ll blog again soon.
