On in-game attitudes

Since most of the games I play are online, I’m bound to encounter a lot of different players in-game. I started playing Team Fortress 2 about a couple of weeks ago, and can’t help but compare it to the Left 4 Dead community.

While I have to admit that I fell in love with Team Fortress 2′s gameplay, I have more love for Left 4 Dead’s community. I usually don’t feel the need for a mic during Left 4 Dead camps, so I don’t use one. When I play online, I rarely talk to the people I team up with – and that’s how I like it.

In Team Fortress, someone is bound to have a mic, and someone is bound to be a chatterbox. Sometimes along with that trait is an annoying in-game attitude which might make you want to rip the custom mouse pads off your desk so you can bang your head repeatedly on it.

There was one guy who felt the need to discuss President Obama’s shortcomings with the rest of his team while everyone else was trying to capture the flag. There are also guys who feel the need to criticize everyone else’s gameplay. There are the whiny guys who take the game too seriously that losing a round by 1 capture is considered a grave offense.

It’s crazy and, at the same time, admittedly entertaining. If anyone gets too annoying, I mute the noisy players.
