A new project

In about 2 weeks, I’ll be launching a new project. This is going to be better than acne medicine. Well, not really, but it’s something I’ve been working hard on and something I’m really proud of.

I’m working on with a friend, and I’ll be announcing it across all my blogs very soon. Hopefully, it’ll get a lot of support and feedback.

On free WordPress themes

I’ve been using WordPress for about, say, 5 years now. I started off with Greymatter, tried b2, and eventually transferred to WordPress when b2 disappeared. I remember trying to learn how to use the WordPress theme system back then (WordPress 1.2, anyone?). It was really simple, those times.

The WordPress theme structure is much more complex but efficient now. The downside is, people who have no HTML experience need to jump over a lot of hurdles to understand the whole system. Good thing there The Best Free WordPress Themes For Download out on the web, where people can easily find a theme to suit their needs.

Diventare currently uses a free WordPress theme, mainly because I have no time to actually create a theme of my own. Maybe someday, I’ll end up making something for the site.

Virtua Tennis 2009!

I was able to get Virtua Tennis 2009 for $7.50 on Steam this morning! :) That’s 75% off the original price! :) I’m glad I waited before getting it. Go check it out, if you’re interested in the game. It’s a pretty good deal.

I’m currently downloading the game files and because I have a pretty sucky internet connection, this means I won’t be able to play online until the game finishes installing. It’s currently at 35%. I’m relieved that Steam put the game on sale while my brother’s out of town, since he seems to hog the bandwidth most of time with all his torrent downloads.

Web hosting

I’ve been looking at web hosting plans for a while now, since I’ve been doing a lot of freelance projects which require their own domains and hosting.

I’m contemplating getting a VPS hosting account so I can host my clients in one server. However, it might make a huge dent on my budget for now, so I guess multiple domain hosting is the best choice for now.

However, I really want a VPS hosting account, since most of the sites I build are e-commerce sites and use up a lot of resources.

Should I get Team Fortress 2?

Team Fortress 2

I’ve been thinking of getting this game for a while now, but I’m still wondering if it’s worth buying. The graphics seem to be great, and it’s cheaper than best weight loss pills.

I’m sort of hoping that there’s a demo I can test somewhere, so I can see if the game suits me before I buy. My friends have it, but I’m not in the mood to come over and try out the game on their computers.

I guess I’m going to have to do a Youtube search.

I’ve turned into a Gleek.

Glee

People have been talking about this show since last year. I really had no intention of seeing it. Call me lazy. But a friend finally convinced me by burning all the episodes on DVD. Instead of looking for diets that work, I began watching it a few days ago, and finished watching all the episodes in 2 days.

It’s actually a pretty good show. I was afraid it would be too cheesy, but it’s just the right amount of cheese. Some episodes made me somewhat uncomfortable, specifically ‘Ballad’. I had to skip a couple of scenes there because Rachel got too creepy.

I’m looking forward to the next season.

New headphones

I got my new headphones today. I’m really happy with them since I’m sure they will make my gaming experience on the PC even better.

I was walking around the mall a couple days ago and I saw that they were selling Guitar Hero 5 for PS3. I’m really curious since I’ve only been able to play Guitar Hero 3. Unfortunately, I don’t have a PS3, so I’ll have to wait until my friends with PS3s actually get the game.

Anyway, speaking of gaming. Take a look at my Left 4 Dead 2 gameplay videos. :)

On web hosting

About a month ago, I ended up having to switch web hosts. I spent a lot of time search for a reliable hosting service, and combed through a reliable website hosting directory to find a nice host.

Eventually, I found a reliable Linux web host and went through the transfer process. I couldn’t be happier. I currently have a reseller, although I really would like to try VPS hosting. Unfortunately, I don’t have the budget for that yet, or for fast weight loss.

But who knows? Maybe in the future.

HTML5

I’ve spent the past few hours reading about HTML5. I was also able to convert my current blog design to HTML5 and CSS3. It’s interesting, and was actually rather fast – but I think I’ll stick with XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.1 at the moment. I was able to find a fix to make the new HTML5 elements work in IE, but when I tried using CSS3, things started to get messy in IE.

Reading about it was interesting, though. The new elements like <nav> and <time> can make the markup easier to understand – especially for beginners. It was a little confusing at the beginning, though. I also think the <header> element is a bit unnecessary, especially when used with <hgroup> . Aren’t all the headings – h1 to h6 – already semantic?

I guess the only thing stopping me from using HTML5 and CSS3 is the fact that about 40% of my blog’s viewers still use IE6 (switch to Firefox or Opera, people!). I guess it’s enough that I’ve learned about it, like reading about best diet pills. Maybe we’ll be able to use HTML5 and CSS3 in 3-4 years – but we’ll probably still hate IE (cross browser compatibility, you are the bane of my – blogging and professional – existence). :D

On getting my first tennis racquet

I got my first tennis racquet yesterday, a few hours before getting ready for the Victory @ 25 celebration. Lyndon mentioned seeing a lot of cheap yellow tennis racquets in Toby’s one afternoon. I’ve been using Lyndon’s Wilson K-Factor Six-One Tour racquet (it’s a Federer signature racquet), and I figured it would be a great opportunity to get my own racquet once and for all.

I spent about thirty minutes choosing racquets, when I finally settled for the Head Nano Titanium Conquest (shown above). It’s lightweight, oversize, and pretty easy to use – very good for a beginner like me. The yellow made me happy of course, since it’s my favorite color.

I went to SM Marikina – again – with 4th this morning to keep him company while he studies for his Civil Service Exam. I headed over to Chris Sports for a while to look at Samsonite luggage and other racquets and saw the Head Nano Titanium Tour racquet.

I had to tell myself, “Lexie, yes it’s pretty. It’s so so so pretty. But you already have a perfectly good racquet at home. You do not need it.”

And because I didn’t get it, I am a winner.

It’s so pretty, though.
