The other day was spent with Shari and Aja to celebrate his birthday. We spent the day in Gateway, and ended up at Fully Booked at one point.

I ended up spending more than I intended. I bought Cary Grant: A Biography, Enchantment: The Life of Audrey Hepburn, and the sequel to Vince’s Life by Vince O. Teves (a local author): Vince’s Life: The Next Chapter - Getting Over Andrea (which is reviewed by Shari, although if you plan to get the book, I’d suggest not reading the whole review).

I’m currently looking for Gregory Peck: A Charmed Life by Lynn Haney. I’m going to see if it’s available on Saturday since Lyndon and I are planning to see Bolt. I hope they have it in Fully Booked or I may have to get it from B&N. …Oh, Fully Booked’s Gateway branch just emailed me saying they have an available copy.

I was given a black cat earlier today. It’s so so so cute. It still doesn’t have a name, and my camera ran out of battery life so I’m waiting to take a photo. Does anyone have any name suggestions? It’s really hard to think of names. (EDIT: What do you guys think of the name Laszlo?)

I’m going to go look at this paint booth, work, and then read a book or watch Two For The Road.

New layout, if you haven’t noticed yet. It’s a lot brighter, and a little more colorful and bright compared to the former layout. But it still has our friend, the ladybug, up there. I hope you like it. I just felt like a change, and the old layout stayed on for a long time anyway. :D

I’ve gotten re-addicted to Frets on Fire lately. I’ve upped my abysmal high score of 150000 to 215000+ (it’s that low, because I never venture into the Medium and Amazing levels - I’m too much of a chicken). I’ve gone on a song downloading spree lately, downloading songs by Led Zeppelin, Def Leppard, Prodigy, and AC/DC. It’s fun.

Aside from that, I’ve been playing a bit of Top Spin, and a few games on my brother’s Nintendo DS Lite. Top Spin is really nice, although I’m a little disappointed that the version my friend is letting me play doesn’t have Novak Djokovic or Ana Ivanovic. Although, it does have Hingis and Dementieva. I’m turning into a gaming geek. I can seriously go on playing these games for hours and not notice the time. Perhaps I need one of these Festina watches.

Speaking of the time, it’s late and I need to get some rest. :D

While waiting for the others to arrive for our weekly Bible study, Jeremiah and I had a mini movie marathon.

We watched four films: Modern Times, The Circus, West Side Story, and Citizen Kane. The first two are Charlie Chaplin films. These two are the first Chaplin films I’ve seen and it was also the first time I encountered The Tramp, Charlie Chaplin’s very memorable onscreen character.

I’m a big fan of old movies, but I’m not a very big fan of silent films. However, The Circus was very entertaining and very fun to watch. I cannot count the moments that I literally doubled over with laughter on Jeremiah’s couch.

Anyone who has seen a silent film featuring The Tramp would know that he has always been a terrible victim of circumstance - and a very kindhearted fellow. The Circus is no different. I’m not going to spoil the plot for you guys, because I’d like you to watch the movie and experience Charlie Chaplin’s humor. :)

In The Circus, Charlie Chaplin is at his best. While I have to say that it’s not as good as Modern Times, we still see the bumbling Tramp unintentionally get into all sorts of trouble. Only The Tramp can get locked in a cage with a lion, try to transfer to another cage containing a tiger and still make it funny. Only The Tramp can find himself being forced to walk a tightrope when the original tightrope walker fails to arrive.

It’s funny, it makes you feel a little sorry for The Tramp, and will make you go “awww” as well. It also ends with the signature ending that usually accompany his movies. :)

Perhaps you’d like to look at modern furniture?

I think it’s that time of the month where I’m allowed to indulge in a very random and pointless entry consisting of bullet points. :D I also just realized that it has been nine days into the month, and I haven’t blogged about anything yet. :D

Actually, it’s also because I haven’t had anything interesting to blog about lately. Maybe it’s just a momentary block (at least I think it is). But hey, things can be good in random bits and pieces, right? Right.

I’ve discovered that certain people haven’t been able to access my blog for the past, what, two weeks? I don’t know how long this has been. DNS records have been updated, so hopefully, you can view the website now. The problem seems to have been resolved for a few of my friends now. :)

I love cinnamon gum. Love it, love it, love it. So if you’d like to shower me with boxes of Big Red this Christmas, I’ll love you forever. ;)

Finally, finally, finally. I have a DVD of To Kill A Mockingbird! Now I can watch Gregory Peck everyday.

I have moved my photoblog as a subdomain under Lexie.ph. If any of you guys have photoblogs, I’d be happy to do a link exchange. ;)

I’ve spent the better part of the day looking at home theater carpeting for the home theater I know I will never have. :D

It’s 4:00PM and I have to get ready for a party I have to attend… in 2 hours. I hate wearing formal dresses. It’s so not me.

I’m about a few months too late, but I can’t say I’m happy hearing the news about a remake of the 1964 musical My Fair Lady, being in the works. And that Keira Knightley is being considered to portray Eliza Doolittle.

I was less thrilled when I found out that George Clooney and Brad Pitt are fighting over the role of Henry Higgins - and Brad Pitt wants Angelina Jolie to play Eliza Doolittle.

It just doesn’t hold any appeal. Perhaps I’m being too quick to judge, but I can’t see Keira Knightley or Angelina Jolie surpassing Audrey Hepburn’s performance. I can’t even think of anyone who would be suitable to play Professor Henry Higgins. I sure as hell wouldn’t choose Clooney or Pitt. The film just seems too iconic and already perfect the way it is, that a remake would just probably ruin the story.

…Of course, that’s just my opinion.

Oh, look. This is my last post for the month of October. :)

My brother went as a hippie, and I went as… an Austin Powers girl (this is according to my brother’s judgment). I think I looked like a complete retard.

But it was fun, a great reason for shopping (I got most of the stuff I wore 50% off, my dress was 60% off), and a great reason to dress weird. :D

Photos can be found after the cut :)

I don’t go to movie theaters often. The thing about our family is, we all seem to be stuck in the past - entertainment-wise. My father and I like to bond over classic movies (particularly that of Hitchcock and Cukor). I have a deep admiration for Grace Kelly. My older brother and I are fans of The Beatles, Blondie, The Sex Pistols, and Jethro Tull.

My DVD collection includes 32 Alfred Hitchcock suspense flicks, Gone With The Wind, Wuthering Heights, My Fair Lady, a few horror flicks… and Garden State.

While shopping for my costume for my brother’s 70s party tomorrow (I’m going to wear a purple and white dress, yellow tights, pumps, an orange headband and large hoop earrings), Jeremiah and I decided to go DVD shopping as well.

The good news: they lowered the prices on the classic titles.

The bad news: I couldn’t find a DVD of To Kill A Mockingbird. :(

Still, I walked out of the shop feeling very happy. The new additions to my DVD collection:

Casablanca (which is actually a gift from Jeremiah)

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Roman Holiday (I got that instead of To Kill A Mockingbird. It still has Gregory Peck.)

Sabrina

Funny Face

Charade

…Audrey Hepburn is trying to dominate my collection. She won’t beat Hitchcock’s reign, though. :D

For your luggage needs. :)

A few weeks ago, I wrote about finding a camera among my grandfather’s old things. It was a lucky find, and something I don’t intend to let go of anytime soon.

I was able to take it for test shots a few weeks ago. I messed up a lot and used up just about half of the film. My mistake, I made a mistake with advancing the film advance lever, and thought that I had reached the last frame. Turns out, I wasn’t able to advance it properly. Too bad. I was still able to get some good shots, though.

I’ve fed the camera a roll of black and white film, and I’m looking forward to trying it out. There are more photos from the first roll in the Flickr set.

WARNING: POST IS IMAGE HEAVY.

Recently, I was able to visit a slum area with my friends, and other leaders from our church. Since we had a car and were part of a rather large group, I had no qualms about bringing a DSLR (my dad’s since his is smaller and lighter than my DSLR). I also brought my rangefinder camera because shooting with film is fun.

The area is located in Junction, Cainta. It lies at a very close proximity to Metrobank and UCPB at Imelda Avenue.

The people there have very sad living conditions. The kids obviously don’t get enough attention and were excited by the prospect of having other people visiting their community. They were all very friendly and all vying for the visitors’ attention.

Adults in the area usually start drinking at noon, if not earlier than that. They show no signs of stopping even as 6:00PM comes rolling in. The sack that the man is holding up in the photo contains one of the most morbid things ever: the remains of a dog they butchered so they would have something to eat along with their rum. A friend of mine who arrived at the place before I did witnessed the actual slaying of the poor dog and was mortified by it.

The kids were really sweet and it was heartbreaking to see them living that way, when they could have so much more. Some of these kids go to school at out church where volunteers teach them elementary to high school education. Everything is free and provided for by the church and a few sponsors from overseas. They only have to take an exam from the Department of Education to get their high school diploma. Unfortunately, majority of the kids in the community are still prevented from going to school by their own parents and are instead sent out on the streets to beg for food or money.

I was impressed, though, by the amount of energy displayed by the children. Stuck in a situation which seemed to have no hope, some of them still manage to find things to laugh and smile about. It somehow made me think of my own life. I realized that I have so much to smile and laugh about, yet I don’t take the time to appreciate those aspects of my life.

It was a very short and rather chaotic visit. I do hope to be back soon - maybe in a few months. I didn’t know that offering to snap a picture or simply giving a child a couple of minutes’ attention could make such a difference, no matter how small the gesture.

p>My brother is turning 23 (I think. I’m a bad sister, I don’t remember his age) this month. Since we’re a family of deranged retards and my brother’s birthday is the day before Halloween, we’ve decided to hold a 70’s themed party. So everyone has to show up looking like a hippie or a go go girl.

The whole planning process falls on me. I’m doing a lot of googling, I have absolutely no idea how to go about this. I have to get an afro wig for my brother, plan my own costume, search for suitable music… gah!

I have two weeks to plan this thing. I don’t even know why I’m doing this for my brother, seriously.

Can anyone suggest good music and artists from the 70’s? I really need to get started on the music and invitations.
